At BigCommerce, our goal is to provide you with the tools and resources you need to build, innovate and grow your ecommerce business.
This includes finding the right ecommerce platform for your business and making the most of it with tips and strategies for everything from marketing to shoppers to improving customer experience to exploring new channels and business models.
Of course, we realize that when it comes to helping you choose the right ecommerce platform, we can be a little biased. That’s why we also want to provide resources from outside, impartial experts who can help guide you through the process.
That’s why we’re thrilled that BigCommerce was recently named as a “Strong Performer” in two influential industry reports from Forrester Research Inc.— The Forrester Wave™: B2B Commerce Suites, Q2 2020 and The Forrester Wave™: B2C Commerce Suites, Q2 2020.
In Forrester analysts’ evaluation of the most significant B2C and B2B commerce suites and how they measure up, BigCommerce earned the highest score possible in six total criteria across the two reports: Expanded Sales Channels, A/B and Multivariate Testing, Platform Architecture, Platform Integration, Delivery Model, and Technology Partners and Marketplace.
We are providing access to the full B2B report, but we also want to explain a little more about what the Forrester Wave Report is and why it can provide you important insights as you choose your next ecommerce platform.
Forrester Research is an independent research company providing forward-thinking advice to global leaders in business and technology. The organization is regarded as one of the most influential research firms in the world.
Since 2011, Forrester Research has been focused on the “age of the customer” and anchored their research and strategy around this theme. According to their website:
We set out to help our clients drive customer-obsessed vision, strategies, and execution — as that is the best and only path to growth and profitability in this time of change.
The Forrester Wave is a graphical representation of their research around ecommerce suites and serves as a guide for buyers considering their purchasing options in the technology marketplace. These reports show how different technology providers measure up and are intended to provide digital business professionals insight into how to choose the right provider for their needs.
Different vendors are ranked for both reports based on Forrester’s criteria, which are grouped into the following categories: Current Offering (what the product offers now), Strategy (the product vision and future roadmap), and Market Presence.
To determine how each vendor meets these criteria, Forrester gathers information about their product strategy and current offerings through a detailed questionnaire, product demo, and case study/customer reference surveys and interviews.
The analysts then consider this information through the lens of their own industry expertise to rank vendors accordingly with scores ranging from 1– 5. A 1 denotes a solution that is below par compared with others in the evaluation; a 3 means the solution is on par with other evaluated vendors, and a 5 means the solution provides superior capabilities.
We’re excited to share that, BigCommerce falls into the range of “Strong Performer” in both the B2B and B2C reports. Additionally, among “Strong Performer” vendors, BigCommerce earned the highest score in the “Strategy” category in the B2C Wave evaluation.
In both the B2B and B2C reports, Forrester notes of BigCommerce:
Its product vision and roadmap are above par compared with others in this evaluation. Furthermore, its curated app store provides beginner, intermediate, and advanced capabilities that clients can swap-out as their needs evolve over time.
As mentioned in the introduction, we received a score of 5 (the highest possible score) in these criteria: Expanded Sales Channels, A/B and Multivariate Testing, Platform Architecture, Platform Integration, Delivery Model, and Technology Partners and Marketplace.
Both reports also state that BigCommerce made a smart play in creating “a business user interface that is simple to use and extend while also being flexible”
Because of the reputation that Forrester Research has and the systematic analysis that goes into producing these reports, they are an incredible opportunity to get unbiased information from industry experts.
In addition to sharing how different platforms you may be considering rank, the reports also give insights on what to look for generally when choosing a platform.
In the Q2 2020 report, Forrester recommends to both B2B and B2C merchants that they focus on a platform that:
Offers prebuilt, deep integrations that are easy to work with.
Provide access to relevant, industry-leading options to extend the platform, such as order management systems, product information management systems, etc.
Have built or moved to a cloud, SaaS, and microservice -based offering.
Prioritize the business user experience.
We’re happy to provide you a complimentary copy of the B2B report, not only because we are proud of our position, but also because we truly feel it’s a valuable resource that will aid you in your technology search.
We’re happy to produce you a complimentary copy of the B2B report.
